Heart of Appalachia
Forming the Virginia border with Tennessee and Kentucky, this region extends to the western most tip of Virginia. It also boasts sections of the Crooked Road Trail, as well as the Wilderness Road Trail. Music can be enjoyed at Carter Fold Music Gathering in Hiltons and the Virginia-Kentucky Opry in Norton. Cyclists regularly make the trek to bike the Burke’s Garden loop set in a valley on top of a mountain. US Bike Route 76, the Adventure Cycling cross-country bike route, enters Virginia at the Breaks Interstate Park in this region. You can bike across the state to Yorktown on BR 76.
